I don't know for sure but I do know for sure that I feel slighted as a veteran player by this: Maybe WG is struggling financially or something and just being desperate. I've always considered it a "thanks for playing so much and helping to keep the game active," reward. The worst possible outcome of this is a player can save enough doubloons, over time and generally by being active, to get something for free. If you have 1 doubloon or a million doubloons it doesn't change the price of a ship. No players resources interact to effect the value of anyone else's. As soon as you purchase doubloons WG gets your money and you get pixels, that's it. An increase in the amount of this resource in circulation could negatively affect the economy in the long run because of the risk of doubloon inflation." " As a result, the number of rewards received during the Anniversary, particularly doubloons, significantly increased. However, I am actually super annoyed by this dev blog. Glad they're getting rid grey boosters, honestly.
